The Hawaii Resources for School Success (HRSS) facilitates local student success for students who struggle in school by providing state-of-the-art, strengths-based individual student learning assessments, learning profiles and plans to guide learning. HRSS learning plans help guide specific classroom strategies to improve learning. Many of these strategies are also useful for all learners. HRSS assessments are interdisciplinary and are designed to guide classroom instruction as well as teacher and family support for students who are diverse learners.

The HRSS assessment differs from the current federally mandated Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) which is often conducted after there is a significant gap between aptitude and achievement. IEP’s are used primarily to document qualification for “special education” resources. On the other hand, HRSS interdisciplinary team assessments effectively help avoid unnecessary labels and unnecessary use of “special education” resources.
The need for HRSS type of assessments and interventions is ideally identified early, before a student lags in academic achievement. A HRSS assessment may be requested by a parent or teacher who is concerned that the student is struggling or may have a learning difference which requires adjustment of current learning strategies.
