STUDENT ASSESSMENT PROGRAM:
The HRSS Student Assessment differs from the current public school federally mandated Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) assessment, which is often conducted after a significant lag in student achievement has been identified. The IEP assessment is used primarily to document eligibility for use of Special Education services , or for accommodations.
The HRSS assessment is an earlier intervention, designed to guide classroom instruction as well as give teachers and families support for student success, before a student “falls through the cracks.”
The HRSS assessment provides classroom strategies which are useful for all learners, not just the student who is assessed. In addition, the HRSS assessment avoids unnecessary labels often associated with Special Education programs.
Ideally, the need for a student assessment is identified early, before a student drops too far behind in academic achievement. Parents and teachers are often the first to notice that a student is struggling and this is the best time to try to understand why.
